NTN Registration in Gujranwala
Enrolled with FBR, properly, the first time.
Registration with FBR happens through the Iris portal. For an individual it is quicker than most people expect; for an AOP or a company there is more to assemble. This page sets out what is actually required, what you receive at the end, and the one thing registration does not do.
What an NTN Actually Is
FBR treats an individual, a company or an association of persons as registered once they are e-enrolled on the Iris portal. Enrolment gives you a National Tax Number or registration number, and a password for Iris — which is the only route through which an income tax return can be filed online.
What that number is depends on who is registering:
If You Are an Individual
Your 13-digit CNIC is used as your NTN or registration number. There is no separate number to remember, and no card to collect. People are often surprised by this and assume their registration failed — it did not.
If You Are an AOP or a Company
A separate 7-digit NTN is issued to the entity after e-enrolment. That number belongs to the business, not to any individual partner or director.
What FBR Requires
Taken from FBR’s own stated requirements for registration. What applies to you depends on whether you are registering as an individual, as a business, or as an entity.
Individual
- Your CNIC
- A mobile SIM registered against your own CNIC
- A personal email address belonging to you
- A bank account maintenance certificate in your own name
Registering a Business
- Everything in the individual column
- Evidence of the business premises — ownership or tenancy
- A recent utility bill for those premises, under three months old
AOP or Company
- Partnership deed or registration certificate
- CNICs of all partners, members or directors
- A signed letter on letterhead authorising a representative
- A SIM registered against that representative’s CNIC and not already registered with FBR
- Email address and bank account maintenance certificate in the entity’s name
Registration Is Not the Same as Being a Filer
This is the single most common misunderstanding, and it costs people money.
- Registration puts you into FBR’s system and gives you Iris access
- Filer status comes from appearing on the Active Taxpayer List, after you have actually filed
- You can be registered and still not be a filer — and still pay the higher withholding rates
- Getting an NTN is the first step, not the finished job
How We Handle It
Tell Us Your Situation
Salaried, business, or an entity — and whether anyone has attempted a registration for you before.
We Send the List
The specific documents for your case, not the full list above. Usually shorter than people expect.
Enrolment
We complete the Iris e-enrolment. Verification codes go to your own SIM and email, so the registration stays yours.
You Hold the Credentials
The Iris login belongs to you. We tell you what to keep, and what the next step is if you also need to file.
On Your Iris Password
Your Iris credentials are yours and should stay that way. We will never ask for your Iris password through a form on this website or through any other channel, and you should be wary of anyone who does — whoever they say they are.
Common Questions
I am salaried. Do I even need an NTN?
Often yes. Registration is what lets you file, and filing is what puts you on the Active Taxpayer List — which is what lowers the withholding tax you pay on property, vehicle and banking transactions. Whether you are required to file depends on your income and circumstances; tell us the details and we will say plainly whether it applies to you.
Where is my NTN certificate?
For an individual there isn’t a separate number or card — your CNIC is the registration number. Only an AOP or company receives a distinct 7-digit NTN.
Can someone else’s phone number be used?
No. FBR requires a SIM registered against the applicant’s own CNIC. For an AOP or company, the representative’s SIM must also not already be registered with FBR. This is a common reason registrations stall.
Someone registered me before and I have lost the login. What now?
You do not need a second registration, and attempting one usually creates more problems. Tell us what you know and we will check what exists against your CNIC first.
Do I need a bank account first?
FBR lists a bank account maintenance certificate among the requirements, so in practice yes for most registrations. It is issued by your bank on request.
How long does it take?
The enrolment itself is not the slow part — assembling the documents usually is. We would rather give you a straight answer once we have seen your case than quote a turnaround that suits us and then miss it.

Tell us whether you are salaried, running a business, or registering an entity, and we will send back the exact list of what is needed for your case.
